The Republican Betrayal of America

It is the single greatest heist in the history of this nation – from the poor and the working to the wealthy.

The tax bill the Republican-controlled Congress approved yesterday will add over a trillion to the national debt.

It will raise taxes on 92 million Americans.

Over 80 percent of the benefits go to the top 1 percent of the country.

And now that they have finally handed Trump his first legislative victory in his first year, what is this Gang of Thieves going to do next?

They’re going after Social Security and Medicare.

Because somebody has to pay for that deficit, and since they’ve already robbed once from working America, they smell blood and they will come around again.

They deride them as entitlements.

They’re not.

We as working men and women have been paying into them since we got our first jobs as teenagers. And when we need that safety net, the Republicans are determined to yank it away.

Because those private jet owners need those tax breaks.

Because Ivanka and her dimwit brothers can’t pay their share of the estate tax.

Because corporations are more important than people.

In defending this theft to the American people, Republican leaders have been playing hilariously loose with math.

Here’s an actual example from Texas Senator John Cornyn on Twitter Tuesday night:

“Under #TaxCutsandJobsAct a married couple earning $100,000 per year ($60,000 from wages, $25,000 from their non-corporate business, and $15,000 in business income) will receive a tax cut of $2,603.50, a reduction of nearly 24 percent.”

Wait. A couple earning together $60,000 in wages somehow manages to take home $40,000 in non-wage income? How is that even feasible? Are they human traffickers?

There isn’t one couple in America who fits this profile.

As the Republicans broke open the champagne last night, it is important to note they have failed to renew a program that provides health coverage to 9 million children across the country.

They have no shame, no compassion, no morality.

Never forget this day.

Never let them forget this day.

Never forget those who put the interests of corporations and millionaires ahead of the lives of everyday working Americans.

2018. Vote them all out.

Every damn one of them.

And in 2020, do it again to Trump.

  1. It’s utterly depressing. It feels as if the fix has been in for sometime, what with all of the corporate money flowing into Congressmen. It’s just that the stars have aligned under Trump to enable their pillaging of Americans.
