MAGA Meltdowns over Superman are Hilarious

Superman poster.

He’s a champion of the underdog.

A warrior who wields his mighty powers to help those in need.

A model of compassion and decency.

Of course, MAGA despises Superman.

Really?

This is the latest round in the culture wars?

Man, it must be exhausting finding things to get outraged about.

The fools at Fox News threw a tantrum about James Gunn’s new blockbuster “Superman.”

Too woke.

Too friendly to immigrants.

Not American enough.

I thought about posting a link, but honestly, I’m not giving those fucktards the clicks. If you want it, you can find it, but wrap a towel around your head so your brain doesn’t dribble out your ears.

it was only a matter of time before MAGA Superman weighed in.

Actor Dean Cain, who starred in the ’90s in “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” is looking to be relevant again as one of its harshest critics, even though he hasn’t seen the film.

“How woke is Hollywood going to make this character?” he groused.

“There have to be limits,” he said.

Full disclosure: I interviewed Cain a few times during the ’90s for his various TV shows and films, and here’s the dirt:

He was an absolute delight.

He was charming, personable, happy to answer any and all questions, and thoughtful in his responses. I have nothing bad to say about him. I met some jerks in my line of work, and he assuredly was not one of them.

His swerve to MAGA in the last decade is perplexing. As he is discovering, it has tarnished his legacy.

He’s roundly considered the worst Superman in any medium. The series that gave him his big break and launched him to stardom is dismissed as garbage.

Just one of the many memes that appreciate the various Supermen – well, almost all of them.

It’s hard to separate the man from the art, particularly when he goes all in supporting a fascist regime that has set up a concentration camp in Florida that offers merch. (Not even Hitler did that.)

He spent four years playing a character he apparently understands nothing about. Then again, he and co-star Teri Hatcher created magic onscreen, and off-camera, they did not get along. Today, I am much more sympathetic to Hatcher.

Maybe Cain was just good at filling out the suit and little else.

Just for the record, Superman has been “woke” only since his creation in 1938.

Two Jewish teenagers with eyes and ears and working brains saw the situation in Europe and the horrors Hitler was ushering in and created a champion of justice.

It’s the ultimate wish fulfillment.

DC house ad from the early 1950s: No wonder Fox is so pissed off.

Kal-El is an illegal immigrant who strives for a better life in the United States. He becomes a reporter to expose wrongdoers.

As Superman, he fought billionaires, union-busters, fascists, and bigots.

It seems a lot of people who claimed Superman as their hero when they were young now realize they grew up to be the villains he fights against. And they’re hella bitter about it.

As far as the comics go, I’ve never been much of a fan, outside of the gloriously insane comics of the ’50s and ’60s where everything and anything could happen for a dime and Superman discovered a new relative or a new variety of Kryptonite every other issue.

DC is riding the big-budget film with the “Summer of Superman,” with specials galore. Even Krypto is getting his own miniseries.

And one of the best comics out there right now is DC’s “Superman.”

Writer Joshua Williamson has been crafting a book that harkens back to the magic of Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four” in the mid-sixties.

Like Stan Lee, Williamson understands that a rich supporting cast is key to the story, and he’s surrounded Superman with allies and enemies alike that spin stories in surprising, exciting directions. His interpretation of Lex Luthor is easily the most nuanced, fascinating version ever created.

The Legion of Darkseid promises to give Supes a run for his money, tho’ so far we’ve only seen evil versions of the Big Three – Lightning Lad, Cosmic Boy, and Saturn Girl – so I’m hoping we’ll see more down the road.

“Superman” is literally the only comic book today that I get excited for. It’s the only reason why I still haunt my local comic book shop.

Kal-El sure does have a lot of power.

  1. As an outsider looking into the States, I see Fox News and sigh in disappointment. That so many Americans believe the crap that channel spews is astonishing.

If they’re against Superman, then I’m for him. And I’ve got tickets to see the film this evening. 😊

  2. Important to note that whenever Fox News is sued, which is often, its first line of defense is that it’s not a news channel, it’s an entertainment outlet. With its 24-hour cycle of outrage and hatred, Fox News has done incalculable damage to this country, and I don’t know how we will ever recover.

I wasn’t planning on seeing the film in theaters, but all this outrage over a character whose chief virtue is his decency has me planning my trip to the box office.
