Everyone is making choices, and there are consequences for all on a heartbreaking “Stargirl.”

In “Brainwave Jr.,” written by James Dale Robinson and directed by Andi Armaganian, we learn that Pat (Luke Wilson) and Barbara (Amy Smart) met cute two years ago over a banana split sundae in a Blue Valley diner.

It’s going to take a lot more than a delicious ice cream treat to put them back together after Barbara realizes the depths of Pat’s deception and how her daughter Courtney (Brec Bassinger) has been sneaking out to fight crime as Stargirl.

“You dragged my daughter into this insanity,” she says.

Courtney, being Courtney, tries to pass off the cosmic staff as a new broom from Sharper Image.

Oh, Court.

It really does look like the end of the Dugan marriage and this sweet blended family.

Barbara says Starman is definitely not Courtney’s biological father, and you know what, I’m going to give this one to Barbara. If anyone should know, it’s her.

One more thing you’ll realize about Barbara by the hour’s end. She’s smart. Really smart.

With Brainwave (Christopher James Baker) awake, Henry Jr. (Jake Austin Walker) “overhears” a family secret that prompts him to settle his loyalties and determine which team – Justice Society or Injustice Society – he will follow.

For fans of the Golden Age of comics, the identity of Henry Jr.’s mother is another terrific Easter egg.

Courtney and the cosmic staff: Which one is truly the bad influence on the other? The staff manages to get itself into a whole lot of trouble.

Courtney brings Henry Jr. to the JSA lunch table – yes, that’s what we will call it. Don’t lie, you know you want to sit there.

It doesn’t go well.

“No worries. Ignore us like you usually do,” Beth calls out to her fellow classmates.

Yolanda (Yvette Monreal) is furious with Courtney for, as she sees it, Courtney choosing Henry Jr. over her. They can no longer be friends, she tells her.

With time running out, the new Justice Society ventures into the tunnels beneath Blue Valley.

When they come to a fork and two corridors, they split up.
