On ‘The Undoing,’ you don’t know what you don’t know

On HBO’s “The Undoing,” Grace (Nicole Kidman) is in for several shocks as secrets about those she loves are revealed.

Warning! Minor spoilers follow!

In “See No Evil” (Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO), written by David E. Kelley and directed by Susanne Bier, Grace still has to explain away how she was captured on camera walking so close by the murdered Elena’s studio.

Haley Fitzgerald (Noma Dumezweni), the high-priced attorney hired to defend Jonathan, isn’t impressed with her answers.

To get Jonathan out on bail, Grace must turn to her father Franklin (Donald Sutherland) for help. Franklin despises Jonathan, but he’ll do anything to protect his family, even if it means revealing a damning truth to Grace.

Henry (Noah Jupe) crosses paths with the wrong person at school.

Detective Mendoza (Edgar Ramirez) finds another reason to visit Grace. She is not prepared for what he has to show her.

“My personal life is none of your business,” Grace says.

“And why would you think that?” he challenges.

Jonathan seeks to reclaim his old life, and that includes Grace.

“We’re not in this together,” she tells him.

But Grace still wonders if Jonathan might be innocent.

Haley decides that they need to get in front of the media circus by having Jonathan grant an exclusive interview with a well-known journalist. (You’ll recognize the face.) But what he says shocks Grace to her core.

This all begs an important question: How has someone as bright as Grace managed to go through life without truly seeing the people around her? And what will that ultimately cost her?
