‘Stargirl’: In defense of Stripesy

There’s a moment that haunts from the premiere of the new DC Universe/CW series “Stargirl.”

Stripesy – Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson) – has just rescued his partner/mentor/presumed pal Starman (Joel McHale) from a massacre at the Justice Society headquarters at the hands of the Injustice Society.

Starman, alas, is dying and begs Stripesy to protect his cosmic staff.

“The Justice Society must live on. Its legacy must survive. Someone with honor, strength, must carry the torch.”

“I’ll try,” Pat says.

“Not you.

What is ‘Batwoman’ without Ruby Rose? How six shows survived losing their stars

The Arrowverse has been rocked by Ruby Rose’s decision to exit CW’s “Batwoman” after the show’s first season.

Both Rose and CW paint it as an amicable split, even if the reasons for her exit are unclear.

The network will recast, and producer Greg Berlanti has promised that the ground-breaking role of the lesbian crimefighter will go to another member of the LGBTQ community.

Still, it’s a huge loss and risk for the network. “Batwoman” is CW’s third most-watched series, behind “The Flash” and the final season of “Arrow.”

Dive into the best of the soaps

ABC and People present a two-hour celebration of daytime serials in “The Story of Soaps” tonight at 9.

Soaps rarely get any attention in prime time, so this special is definitely worth checking out.

The documentary features such celebrities as Carol Burnett, Bryan Cranston (who got his break on “Loving”) and Jon Hamm dishing on the genre.

The network promises the special will explore how female creators shifted from radio to television and how their work changed pop culture.

You can also probably expect to see a fair share of catfights, crying, catfights, people dying, catfights, people coming back from the dead, and catfights.

There’s so much more to daytime than its excesses.
