TFG is Having a Bad Month. Why That’s Great for the Country.

We’re in Year Two of Joe Biden’s presidency, but TFG (The Former Guy) can’t let that election go.

In a recent statement, TFG actually said the quiet, traitorous part aloud:

While repeating his lies about widespread voter fraud, he said that … ‘Mike Pence did have the right to change the outcome … Unfortunately, he didn’t exercise that power. He could have overturned the election!”

You don’t need to be Perry Mason to see this as a confession.

In a TV interview not long after, TFG dangled the promise of pardons for the Jan. 6 insurrectionists, saying they had been treated very badly.

That would seem to amount to a declaration of witness tampering.

The GOP, proving it is still lockstep in the cult of Trumpism, formally censured Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, the only Republicans serving on the Jan. 6 Committee, and characterized the Jan. 6 insurrectionists as “engaged in legitimate political discourse.”

Legitimate. Political. Discourse.

These people stormed the Capitol, assaulted and injured dozens of police officers, and tried to overturn the election.

Legitimate. Political. Discourse.

They actually erected a gallows and called for Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi to be hanged.

Legitimate. Political. Discourse.

Was this “legitimate political discourse”?

Let everyone remind the GOP of those words in the next election. Let them be haunted by those words. Let every GOP candidate be asked to defend those words.

Even across some right-wing media, the language does not sit well.

The Wall Street Journal stated in a Feb. 4 editorial, ” … Republicans should not get within 10 miles of defending the Capitol riot. What is to be gained by the RNC’s indulgence of President Trump’s vendettas?”

But here’s the best indicator that at last some sanity might return to the nation:

Former VP Mike Pence, in his most blunt break with the Mar-a-Lago toddler, stated, “President Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election. The presidency belongs to the American People, and the American people alone. And frankly, there is no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president.”

Pence has never been more forceful or more adamant regarding his ex-boss’ actions. Pence might be looking to forge his own path to the White House. This declaration could be his way of telling the conservative old guard that he wants to run for president, free of the TFG craziness.

Whether he can shake off the stink is another matter.

At the very least, the developments in the last week indicate that the mood in the nation just might be changing. Even TFG’s most ardent supporters are getting tired of him, of his endless tantrums and lies. That’s the best news for this country in a long time.
